Left Alliance NE enroute to Custer NE. Hwy 87 to Hwy 20 and stopped in Rushville for breakfast.
A little bit of useless trivial history for you about Rushville. This is where Louis and Clark discovered prairie dogs. According to notes on the issue, they attempted everything they knew to do to flush the little guy out of his burrow. They even attempted to dig him out. After 6 feet of digging they discovered they were no where near the bottom and gave up on that idea. They finally managed to flush one out LITERALLY. 5 barrels of water and the poor little guy didn't have much choice but come out. End of history lesson ;-)
After Rushville, we headed up through the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Wow, that was depressing. Now don't get me wrong, I can empathize and I can more than understand their refusal to take the money for the mountains. I would fight like hell too, but it damn sure doesn't cost anything to pick up the trash and make things presentable. Bill is a very dark skinned man with LONG dark hair. Yes he appears Indian. We were attracting a great deal of attention and it was very uncomfortable. We stopped for gas and got the hell out and headed out to Hot Springs, SD.
Hot Springs is a gorgeous little touristy town. Lots of history, wonderful old buildings, and friendly people. We rode through and headed up to Custer. Lots of "bikers" lol... yuppies and posers galore! Neat town none the less though. We stayed the night and got there just as the rain hit. It was a lot cooler there than it was in Texas when we left..
